3172 ROMANIA (Bucharest) - The 6th Meetup of the group Postcrossing & Philately, Bucharest, 7 October 2017

With the occasion of the 6th meetup of the group Postcrossing & Philately, which held in Bucharest, on 7 October 2017, Eugen Mihai edited a special postcard, in limited serie (60 copies). In image is the Suter Palace, now Carol Parc Hotel, located near historical Carol Park, on Filaret Hill (the highest natural point of Bucharest, named after a late 18th-century metropolitan of the region). Condé Nast Traveler included the hotel in its "Hot List 2008: the best 130 hotels of the world."

The palace was built between 1902 and 1906, in Neoclassical style with Brâncoveanu style influences, by the German architect Adolf Suter, a socialite and friend of King Carol I of Romania. By 1940, the real estate was bought by a Greek banker, who gave it as a gift to his mistress. After a short time, the building was nationalized by the Communists who came to power and turned into the Party headquarters and even in the center for the coordination of local operations of the Soviet intelligence services (KGB).

Retroceded to legal owners in 2001, the building was restored and modernized between 2003 and 2007 with the participation of architects and designers from Romania, Italy, Austria and Germany, and the investment was over 6 million euros. The interior, carpeted with silk, was restored by sampling decorations found under many layers of plaster and restored identically. The entrance and the stairwell from marble of Spain and Venezuela are dominated by one of the largest
Murano crystal chandeliers ever made (14m high, 2t in weight) inspired by Brâncuşi's Infinity Column.
